South Africa Supports Small Businesses Through Reforms, Funding

(MENAFN) South Africa is focusing on creating a favorable environment for small enterprises by streamlining regulations and expanding financial support, according to reports.

At the 14th annual Proudly South African Buy Local Summit and Expo in Johannesburg, Minister of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni outlined plans to assist 1 million micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) during the current government term through both financial and non-financial support.

“MSMEs play a crucial role in addressing unemployment and inequality in our country,” Ndabeni said, emphasizing that the sector employs millions and serves as a key driver of job creation and inclusive growth.

She highlighted measures such as implementing a red-tape reduction framework and expanding the e-registration system to simplify business registration and reduce administrative burdens at the municipal level.

The government also intends to increase MSMEs’ access to finance by collaborating with development finance institutions, banks, and non-bank lenders, while enhancing market readiness and post-investment support to improve business sustainability, Ndabeni said.

“We will continue to improve the business environment, including by advancing the Business Licensing Bill to make it easier to start and operate small businesses,” she added.
